Science
TEACH provides a high-quality science education that progressively builds a body of key knowledge and an understanding of the way that scientists work. Children develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena and learn how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.
In line with the current National Curriculum, teaching of science at the TEACH Trust will:
- Provide a stimulating and exciting curriculum
- Ensure that children learn and can recall factual scientific knowledge
- Teach children about the role and work of scientists
- Encourage children to enquire, explore and observe, so that they can raise questions about themselves and their environment
- Develop the skills children need to devise ways of finding out answers to their questions and satisfy their curiosity
- Develop children’s initiative and ability to work both independently and in co-operation with others
- Develop an ability to communicate scientific ideas and findings in a variety of formats using appropriate scientific language
- Develop an ability to interpret findings critically and relate these to phenomena and events in the world around them
- Develop skills of investigation – including observing, measuring, predicting, hypothesizing, experimenting, communicating, interpreting, explaining and evaluating
- Prepare our children for a life in an increasingly scientific and technological world
- Foster concern about, and active care for our environment
At TEACH Trust Schools, children are encouraged to ask and answer scientific questions through an engaging curriculum design, involving ‘real’ scientific activities and investigations. They engage in a wide variety of problem-solving activities, making links with other curriculum areas (as appropriate) to maximise their learning opportunities.
