Transition in to Year 3 at Haymoor Junior School
We work incredibly hard in school to make sure that the transition from Infant school to Haymoor Junior School is as easy as possible for the children and that they feel excited, ready and keen to join their new school.
Throughout the year, there are numerous transition activities between Ad Astra Infant School and Haymoor Junior School, such as shared reading and joining together to watch special performances. All of which helps familiarise the children with the Junior school and begins to settle any nerves.
In the summer term, we provide further opportunities for the children to visit the Junior school. We offer a variety of different activities including a music workshop, maths games, an arts and crafts activity morning and the transition day, where they experience a whole day as a Year 3 child, getting to know the staff in their new school and asking any questions that they may have.
The pastoral care team visit the feeder schools in the summer term to meet pupils in their current setting. If a pupil is joining Year 3 from a school outside of the TEACH trust, a home visit is offered. At every transition activity, the pastoral care team will pop-in to say hello to the children.
For certain vulnerable pupils or those with SEND, additional visits are offered and pupil passports created. The Inclusion Lead will liaise closely with the SENDCo/Inclusion Lead and staff from feeder schools to ensure that information is shared.
We pride ourselves on having excellent transition between schools and we are confident that your child will settle into our school quickly and easily.
