Young Carers
MYTIME is the chosen charity for all the schools in TEACH Poole. MYTIME and TEACH are working in partnership to support Young Carers. A Young Carer is a child just like any other. The only difference is that a Young Carer is responsible for the care of at least one relative. They may care for a parent, sibling, grandparent or other relative. They may provide physical, emotional, personal or practical care. The relative in question may be living with a mental health condition, disability, illness or substance misuse disorder.
We are really keen to acknowledge and celebrate the Young Carers who attend our school and also help them to access support and enrichment both in-school and from the charity MyTime. We work to support all Young Carers, regardless of the nature of their caring role.
Our in-school provision will begin in the Autumn Term 2021 when we will begin running a Young Carer’s group once a half term. This group will be held for one afternoon and will allow all of the Young Carers in our school to meet up and have some fun together. Our staff will also receive training from MyTime to allow them to further support our Young Carers.
MyTime run a monthly virtual Young Carers Youth Club which we have heard fantastic things about. We have shared the link to this with the parents/carers of our Young Carers.
If you have any questions or queries about Young Carers then please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs Killahena, our Pastoral Care Worker.
